Crossing boundaries between Indian classical and folk music forms and experimental dance theater, Choreographed by Sheetal Gandhi. Premiered March 6th-8th at the Glorya Kaufman Theater in at UCLA. Gandhi merges text, gesture, live song and passionate dancing to explore both the humor and tragedy of how different women deal with the restrictions in their lives. The work is inspired in part by the songs women sing in the desert regions of North India, as well as by personal narratives from the South Asian diaspora.
