Andy Sannella und sein All Star Orchester mit Refraingesang - Bubbling Over With Love (Tanzmuzik und Liebe); (Renée Russell -Milton Ager), Electrola 1931 (Germany) ----------------------------------- Andy SANNELLA (Anthony G. Sannella) -- his name often shows up missing one „n" - was a bandleader, saxophonist, clarinetist and Hawaiian steel guitarist of American-Italian origin, who also played cello and bass. He was the musician who -- in addition to leading his own bands - probably played as a sideman in more orchestras than any other musician in American jazz history. E.g. in The Virginians, Sannella was part of a combo with several brilliant players from late '20s: violinist Lou Raderman, banjoist Harry Reser and pianist Milt Rettenberg. One of the greatest groups of this era, Art Gillham's Southland Syncopators, the Columbia "house musicians", included Sannella along with with the famous trumpeter Red Nichols, as well as the young clarinetist Benny Goodman. There were also credits with artists such as Bing Crosby and Cliff "Ukulele Ike" Edwards. Cliff Edwards & His Hot Combination featured Sannella on alto sax and cello, jamming alongside two giants -- the violinist Joe Venuti and guitarist Eddie Lang. Andy Sannella died in 1962.
