On 7th July 2008, about 200 farmers belonging to Polepally village (Mahabubnagar district, Andhra Pradesh, India) demonstrated in front of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) headoffice. The state government has grabbed about 1000 acres of farmland for setting up an SEZ. While the poor farmers got a meagre compensation of about Rs.16,000 per acre, the APIIC is selling land at more than 100 times this value. This is one of the biggest land grab in independent India.
