Brooklyn's King's County 병원 정신과 응급실의 감시카메라가 아니었다면 49세의 Esmund Green씨가 사망하기전에 어떠한 일이 벌어졌는지 알 수 없었을 것입니다. 바닥에서 사투를 벌이고 있을때 여러사람이 지나 다녔지만 아무도 그녀를 도와주지 않았습니다. 의료진 이 왔을때는 한시간정도 지난 후 였습니다. 뉴욕 CLU는 6월9일 아침 5;30경에 응급실 바닥에 쓰러지는 Green씨를 촬영한 비디오 테이프를 공개했습니다. 20분정도 후에 안전요원이 보았습니다. "그가 걸어들어 갑니다, 거기 서있네요. 위에 TV가 있는 줄 알았습니다. 그가 TV를 보고 있는줄 알았죠. 환자를 분명히 보았고 그냥 가 버립니다. Green씨는 후에 사망한 것으로 밝혀 졌습니다. 뉴욕시 HHC는 성명을 발표했습니다 "우리는 이 사건에 충격과 비통을 느 낌니다" 이 사건을 알고 모욕감도 느낀다고 합니다. 경비회사사장은 관련자들의 직무정지와 해고를 지시했습니 다. 시장은 조사에 협조할 수 있는 모든 지원을 하겠다고 합니다. 공포스럽습니다. 역겹다는 말조차 미사여구입니다. Had it not been for surveillance camera inside the psychiatric emergency room in Brooklyn's King's County Hospital, we may never have known what happen to forty-nine year old Esmund Green in the moments before she died. As she struggles on the floor, several people walk by but no one does anything to help her. And it takes nearly an hour before medical team arrives to treat her. The New York Civil Liberty's Union released this video tape showing Green falling to the floor in the emergency room around 5:30 on the morning of June 19th. About twenty minutes later, a security guard comes into view. 'He walks in, stands there. We actually think there's a television up in the top. We think he's looking at the TV but he's clearly got the patient in view and he walks away.' Green was in the ER waiting for a bed to become available. At one point, the woman can be seen struggling to free herself from the chairs. And at another point, she appears to make an effort to get up. A copy of her medical records contradicts the tape. Listing her at the same time as being 'awake, up and about, even going to the bathroom.' At about 6:10am lawyers say a second security guard enters the room. 'Here he comes. Enter the room, checks her out. He can't even get himself off his chair. He sits there and then you'll see him wheel himself away.' Finally around 6:30am, medical personnel arrive. Green is later pronounced dead. The New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation released a statement saying, 'We are shocked and distressed by this situation.' Adding that affront learn of the incident, the agency's president directed the suspension and termination of those involved. The city's mayor says the city will do everything it can to cooperate with the investigation. 'I was horrified; it's much too nice of a word, disgusted, is I think is a better word.' This is not the first time the psychiatric unit at Kings County Hospital has been targeted. Advocates for the mentally ill filed a lawsuit in federal court in 2007, calling this in quote, 'Shameful place with horrendous conditions.' That suit is still active. The city's Health and Hospitals Corporation says it has put in place a number of reforms and continues to do so. Including checking on the patients in the psychiatric unit every 15 minutes.
