Swam in the crater of this volcano, about 2 hour hike each way amidst searing heat and driving rain. Mt. Pinatubo erupted in 1991 and enveloped the entire world with ash that basically lowered the global temperature for 1 degree. It is regarded as one of the most violent eruptions in a century. Ashfalls were recorded as far as Malaysia and Vietnam. It literally blew up 300 meters of its top to form a caldera where we swam last May 10th 2008.
